I took the kids to the Atlanta Botanical Garden with some friends on Saturday. It was hot as Hades, although the Savannahians claimed I don’t know what hot is. Whatevs. . . .
Although I had both kids (Todd had a shoot on Saturday), I did get a chance to chat with Jason and Alison about new baby Averil, talk to Donnie, and get to know his awesome girlfriend Lisa. And the kids had a great time, too. I also took the new camera and took some pictures. Fun! Would have been more fun taking pictures sans kids, but it was a good time.

There is something so relaxing and centering about seeing old friends. We all turned out a-okay.
I really found Fat Tire at the grocery store. For reals. It’s in the big bottle (couldn’t find a regular six or twelve pack) and they had two or three other New Belgium beers, too. The Fat Tire reads something like, “Georgia on my Ride. The first (legal) commemorative distribution of New Belgium beers in Georgia.”
Commemorative, my ass. . . I’m drinking that bitch.
I was kind of stressed out today, trying to get out of town, but this makes it much, much better. I’m sure he won’t, but it would be nice if they fried this guy. If he did it, I’m okay with it hurting him, and I’m okay with his brains melting out his ears. I’m okay with all his family and friends crying about it on tv, too.
I know, I amblack-hearted, I guess. But knowing there is one less waste of oxygen on the streets makes me feel better. Also impressed that Atlanta Police were actually able to do something about this.
Just saw a couple in the feeder. Hadn’t seen any out there before. (Which doesn’t mean they aren’t there, just that I am a beginner birdwatcher.) The ones we saw were definitely two males.
Interestingly, groups of Goldfinches are referred to as a “Treasury,” “Charm,” “Rush,” or “Vein.” Kinda neato.
You can read more about them here. I am pretty happy that I easily identified one for once. Maybe I’m getting better at this.
Well, I started an awesome, fun post about childhood stuff, but then it was seventies and sunny, so I took my bike out for a ride. Then halfway down the hill closest to my house, I threw my chain off and the whole damn thing jammed, so I walked bike back home, and went for a run. That was nice, but then I had to go pick up some free stuff from EAV, then had to get lunch, and pick up Rollie, volunteer for the literary club at his school, take him to the park afterwards (bribery for being good during the lit club), then off to the grocery, where he argued every freakin’ purchase with me.
Just got home. So not going to write my post until tomorrow.
Mostly because we’re going to see The Pogues!
Along with just about every person I knew in high school and college.
I am sure i will feel awesome tomorrow.
Oh, Pierce if you are reading this, baby update, please!
Dogwood Girl is not here. She renewed a love affair born early, a love of Tilt-A-Whirl stomach lurches, and Van Halen Himalaya rides. She and LouLou La Loush ditched their husbands and children and ran away with the carnival. They are carnies, now. They ride the Himalaya every night. They ride like the wind.
So, i have been thinking about my neighborhood a lot today. A friend from my old neighborhood is grappling with the whole educating-a-kid-in-intown-Atlanta-schools issue. She asked my opinion on a living in my old neighborhood (EAV) vs. living in my new neighborhood (Northlake Mall/Lavista/Briarlake) vs. living in the real OTP burbs (I grew up in Roswell/Alpharetta. She is considering E. Cobb.)
I thought scads about all the different things that go into choosing what is not just best for a kid’s education, but what is best for a family. And all of that discussion confirmed for me that we made the best decision for us.
Also? It helps when my awesome neighbors call me at 3pm on Friday to bring the kids over to play in the sunshine, swing, slide, throw pine cones, and climb fig trees, while we drink beer and wine and order Mediterranean takeout.
I miss my old neighborhood. I love my new neighborhood. I wish they could meet each other, because, damn, they would get along really well together.
Okay, I didn’t actually see any zombies. I was in Decatur, going to the library there to find a particular reference book for nerd purposes. Turned down Sycamore, (I think) and started seeing “Zombie Land” everywhere on director’s chairs. Big cameras I had seen on Ponce began to make more sense.
Unfortunately, I was driving and am not comfortable with rubbernecking in a high pedestrian traffic area, so I saw no celebs or zombies.
Which just sucks. If you are headed to downtown Decatur, and battling for a parking space, and paying for parking, then you damn well want to see a zombie or a celeb, or the pinnacle, a zombie celebrity.
Zombieland appears to be filming in Atlanta and um, Valdosta. Zombies in Valdosta! Looks like Woody Harrelson is in it. Hmmm. Would be interesting to see Woody Harrelson in Decatur. Dressed as a zombie.
Okay, the snow was yesterday, but school’s out today. Which is awesome.
We played Candyland early in the day, then headed out in the snow, had a snowball fight, and built some snowmen. Our nice old neighbors gave us brownies to go with our hot chocolate, and they made over Tiller’s snowman. After lunch, we went over to our neighbors’ house and the kids played. They built the biggest snowball in the world. They “sledded” downhill using the recycling bin lid. We went inside and had pizza and listened to music and drank beer.
All in all, a lovely day. And here is a little video of the us, the kids, and Quint playing in the snow.
